I'm a postdoc working in Laura Chomiuk's group studying the bolometric light curves of classical novae. We aim to understand both the shape of these light curves, and how often novae show signatures of shocks or other sources of additional luminosity. My work in other areas includes mapping the neutral hyrdrogen in the Milky Way and measuring the potential of our Galaxy using new direct acceleration measruements. Modern instrunments have unlocked the ability to measure directly the accelerations of nearby star systems, providing the most direct method of measuring the local distribution of matter.
