Bio

Amy Refior serves as the MAU Financial Officer for Michigan State University's College of Natural Science, where she provides strategic financial leadership and oversight for the college's fiscal operations, budgeting, forecasting, compliance, and resource planning. She partners closely with college leadership to support informed decision-making, ensure sound stewardship of resources, and advance the college's mission of using discovery, innovation and our collective ingenuity to advance knowledge across the natural sciences. 

Amy brings more than 20 years of progressive experience in higher education finance, administration, audit, and compliance at Michigan State University. Throughout her career, she has managed complex, multi-source budgets, developed financial strategies, strengthened internal controls, and provided guidance to leadership on fiscal operations and policy compliance. Her expertise includes budget development, financial forecasting, audit and risk management, resource allocation, endowment administration, and financial reporting.

Prior to joining the College of Natural Science, Amy served in financial roles within MSU Extension, where she oversaw budgets, supported MAU-level budgeting processes, managed statewide financial operations, and led initiatives related to county agreements, endowments, and organizational financial reporting. She also supervised staff, facilitated fiscal officer collaboration across the university, and served as a key resource for financial planning and operational decision-making.

Earlier in her career, Amy spent more than a decade as an Internal Auditor at Michigan State University, conducting enterprise-wide audits, evaluating internal controls, assessing risk, and helping units strengthen compliance and financial accountability. This experience continues to inform her practical and collaborative approach to fiscal leadership.

Amy holds both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Accounting from Michigan State University. She is passionate about building strong partnerships, improving financial processes, and helping academic leaders navigate complex financial environments in support of institutional success

Amy resides in East Lansing, Michigan with her husband Curt and their three children; Abby, Wyatt and Grace.
