Bio
H(ASCP)CM Michelle Markstrom first came to MSU as a high school student working in molecular biology research. She graduated from Michigan Technological University with a B.S. in Medical Technology in 1993. Michelle was previously the Laboratory Coordinator for the Biomedical Laboratory Diagnostics Program at MSU. In January, 2020, Mick transitioned to Assistant Instructor and works in BLD 213L, BLD 314L, BLD 424L, and BLD 452L, as well as some Graduate Level Labs. Starting in Summer of 2020, she will be a Faculty Co-Advisor for the BLDSA. Michelle has many years of professional laboratory experience. She worked for St Joseph Mercy Livingston Hospital from 1995 until joining BLD in August, 2018. Michelle was a generalist for many years and then became the Hematology Team Leader. She has also worked for Cayman Chemical Company in Ann Arbor, working in the EIA production lab. This Lab produced EIA kit components and also handled technical support. Teaching Statement: “My teaching goal is to share my Clinical Lab experience and motivate students to not only understand the theory behind our profession but find their own passion in the field.” Michelle has 2 daughters, and she and her husband live in Williamston. She loves to golf and travel.
