Bio

### Research Interests
My lab studies the role of aging and neuroinflammation on brain function, with emphasis on the role of innate immunity in aging and neurodegenerative disease, especially Alzheimer’s disease. Using mouse models of neurodegenerative diseases, my research focuses on developing novel therapeutics to modulate innate immunity, including lifestyle modifications, small molecule agents, vaccines, biologics and gene therapy. My lab assesses cognitive function in treated mice using various mazes and other behavioral tests. My lab relies heavily on anatomical and histological techniques to visualize and quantify neuropathology and neurodegeneration. By assessing effectiveness of potential new therapeutic strategies in mouse models, we hope to develop some much-needed, effective treatment strategies to mitigate symptoms, delay development of brain pathology and/or prevent neurodegeneration that can be translated to human patients.
