##Lab [Jiming Jiang](https://directory.natsci.msu.edu/Directory/Profiles/Person/102372) ##Research Interests Biotechnology, genomics and genetic engineering ##Quick Profile **What got you interested in plants and plant science?** Early in my undergrad I knew I wanted to become a genetic engineer. I was on the fence on doing this in animals or plants (bacteria is too basic) but landed on plants because of ethical concerns. **What is your research about?** Genetic engineering of potatoes to create interesting traits (tuber color, metabolite accumulation and growth) and understand gene function. **What is the potential societal impact of your research?** Hopefully improving potatoes so they are healthier and more nutritious for human consumption. **Where do you see yourself in 10 years?** As a professor. **On a Saturday afternoon, you'll likely find me:** playing board games (probably Root) or video games with friends.
