###Quick Profile
**What got you interested in plants and plant science?**

In high school, I started accumulating a lot of houseplants. This initial interest in plant science led me to enroll in a botany class my senior year. Once I started to learn about plants, I realized they were way more complex than I had ever thought. I was already really passionate about my plants at home and I realized that I could make a career out of that passion. There is still so much we don’t know about plants and I realized during that class that I want to be part of the discoveries to come.

**What is your research about?**
My research looks at seed longevity of _Verbascum blattaria. V. blattaria_ is the sole species of the Beal Bottle Experiment that is still germinating after 140 years. My goal is to uncover some of the mechanisms that allow the seed to survive for so long in a dynamic soil environment. My approaches include genomics, transcriptomics, and physiology.

**What is the potential societal impact of your research?**
My ultimate goal is to help growers. By understanding how seeds survive, we can help growers save important crop seeds while also eradicating weed seeds in the field.

**Where do you see yourself in 10 years?**
In 10 years, I hope to be an associate professor with an appointment that includes both research and teaching. I want to spend the rest of my life discovering what plants have to offer and sharing my passion of plants with the next generations.

**On a Saturday afternoon, you'll likely find me:**
